Situated in the village of Vosne-Romanée, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti – or simply DRC – is the world-famous wine producer that needs no introduction. Since 1942 the estate is co-owned by two families, the de Villaine and the Leroy, with Alexandre Bernier in place as head winemaker following the retirement of Bernard Noblet in 2018. DRC has the monopole of two grand cru vineyards, including the eponymous Romanée-Conti, which covers 1.8 hectares of old vines. This release is the 2011 vintage available here in a magnum bottle. Expect a sumptuous nose of red berries, spices and refined floral notes. The palate reveals a silky texture, very fine tannins and superb length. Stunning.

Bright, deep red. Reticent, musky nose opens slowly to reveal blackberry, violet, wild herbs and spicy oak; in a rather feminine style and a showstopper. Juicy and penetrating but at the same time silky and sweet, offering an ineffable combination of red and dark berries, spices, flowers and minerals. Conveys an impression of volume and thickness without any obvious weight. Dusty tannins saturate the palate and shimmer on the unflagging finish. The combination of silkiness and vibrancy here is uncanny.
