This is an incredibly rare cognac from the Napoleonic era, namely the year 1802. The precious liquid is presented in 3.41-litre demi-john style bottle, which is in great condition after more than 200 years. The Massougnes estate closed in 1874, after the phylloxera crisis ruined vines all over Europe a few years prior, making this bottle a true piece of cognac history.

Massougnes 1802 refers to an extraordinarily rare Cognac from the Napoleonic era, distilled in the early nineteenth century and dating to 1802. Produced in the Grande Champagne region, widely regarded as the most prestigious terroir in Cognac, it originates from a period long before the phylloxera epidemic reshaped European viticulture, placing it among the most historically significant spirits in existence.

Its survival for more than two centuries is remarkable, and it is most commonly encountered in large glass demi johns of approximately 3.4 litres, a format typical of long term cellaring rather than commercial bottling. This presentation, combined with its extreme age and pre phylloxera provenance, contributes to its rarity and desirability among collectors.

The Cognac is noted for a complex and composed profile, with nutty tones such as hazelnut alongside grassy, straw like and woody notes, supported by subtle herbal nuances. More than a Cognac, Massougnes 1802 stands as a liquid artefact of the Napoleonic age, offering a rare and tangible connection to the earliest traditions of Cognac production.
