La Romanée-Conti Grand Cru is a monopole vineyard of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and is often singled out as Burgundy’s greatest terroir. Originally called Cros des Cloux, this hallowed vineyard has a long and illustrious history, but its more modern era began with the first new vintage bottling from DRC in 1952, after replanting of the vines in 1947-48. The 2006 displays floral aromatics on the nose, together with raspberry, spice and earthy nuances.
The 2006 Romanée-Conti is widely regarded as a refined and quietly profound expression of Pinot Noir, prized for its elegance, complexity and capacity for long ageing. It shows vibrant red fruit character, with notes of raspberry and cherry complemented by floral tones of rose petal, alongside truffle, gentle spice and subtle earthy detail. The palate is defined by a silky, finely woven texture, revealing ethereal mineral notes and faintly animal nuances that add depth without excess.
Rather than the overt power of the 2005 vintage, the 2006 emphasises balance and restraint, delivering richness with precision and composure. Its harmony and depth unfold gradually, leading to an exceptionally long and graceful finish. Often described as almost meditative in character, this is a Romanée-Conti of poise and inner strength, offering remarkable complexity and outstanding long-term potential.
