Château d`Yquem is widely considered to be one of the world`s greatest sweet wines, this is a wine with great balance and complexity, which can age for decades with ease.

Produced primarily from Semillon, with a smaller proportion of Sauvignon Blanc, the wine was made using grapes affected by noble rot, or Botrytis cinerea, concentrating sugars and flavours to remarkable intensity. Yields were minuscule, often described as little more than a single glass of wine per vine, contributing to both the wine’s richness and its extreme rarity. The ability of Yquem to age for decades, and in exceptional cases well over a century, is central to its legend.

With great age, vintages such as 1871 are associated with deep, evolved complexity rather than youthful fruit. Aromas and flavours are typically described in terms of caramel, honey, crème brûlée, toasted nuts, saffron and orange peel, reflecting long oxidative development layered over Yquem’s natural acidity and structure. The bottle was reconditioned and re-corked in the late 1980s at Chateau d’Yquem.
